And you can quote us too, because we keep saying it, the Rio Grande is the best sea run brown trout river in the world, and we are starting the season off in epic style. Kau Tapen rods have been catching over 20 big sea run browns daily for the last two weeks.Fish of 15 and 20 pounds are, in the words of head guide Max Mamayev, "Pretty common…we don't go out the door hoping to catch a big sea run--we head to the river each day expecting to catch big sea run brown trout!"

Both Kau Tapen and Villa Maria have been landing big fish consistently, and days ago Villa Maria beached 37 big sea trout.Just days before that, the lodge landed 29 and hooked 43!

But what about really big fish? Monster sea runs of 26 and 28 pounds have been released in recent days. Longtime Villa Maria angler Axel W. caught 55 sea run brown trout including a 28 pounder during his week on the Rio Grande! We know Axel is a pretty good stick-but 55 fish during his stay is exceptional fishing.

 

What does all this have to do with Woody Allen? We have only 4 rods open. You don't have to be able to cast around corners, or wade through raging currents or even be that gifted an angler.
