FISHING REPORTS

Bairs Lodge Fishing Report : May 2 to 9 - 2010

Good numbers of fish were caught this week. Weather conditions have been near perfect with bright skies and moderate winds all week. Many boats reported 20+ fish landed with many others spotted and cast to.  There were not a lot of very large fish caught, but there were at least 25 fish in the 5 – 7 pound range.  Fishing was consistently productive in all areas.

Villa Maria End of Season Report

We have just finished our longest ever season on the Rio Grande, we were first to open and last to close. High water levels throughout much of January made for very tough fishing. As we moved into February and beyond we saw 'normal' conditions resume and we had some fantastic weeks fishing. We landed 167 fish over 15lbs and 77 fish over 20lbs.

Bairs Lodge Fishing Report : Apr 25 to May 2 - 2010

High winds made fishing tricky at the start of the week. As things calmed down we had near perfect conditions and many boats returned with 20 plus fish. There were a good number of bigger bones as well, with the highlight being a huge 12 pounder!

Kau Tapen End of Season Report

The weather gods were against us at the start of the season and we had two periods of very high water in January. However, once the river dropped and cleared we returned to business as usual. We had some truly memorable weeks and many guests left us having caught the fish of a lifetime. We landed 110 sea trout over 15 lbs and an incredible 40 over 20 lbs!

Kau Tapen Fishing Report : April 10 to 18 - 2010

Another great season comes to an end at Kau Tapen. The river is full of fish but as their minds turn to spawning they are less agressive and correct fly presentation and speed was all important. As always the end of the season yielded some very big fish, including six fish over 20 lbs.

Bairs Lodge Fishing Report : Apr 12 to 18 - 2010

This week we have had some higher winds and seas, as a result the guides have been going into the creeks and finding good numbers of tailing fish.  We have had many shots at some good sized tailers and have landed some beautiful fish.  Several anglers have landed fish over 7 pounds.  We also have had a few trips to the south where we are getting many shots at large schools.

Bella Vista End of Season Report

We celebrated our 15th year of managing Bella Vista in style. Great river conditions throughout the season, with only a couple of difficult weeks, helped contribute to a memorable season. We caught 30 % more fish per rod than last season and every week compared favourably to the previous year. The average weight was a remarkable 12.5 pounds, the highest in the history of the lodge! The fishing was also consistently good throughout the season with some of the first and last weeks proving the best.

Bairs Lodge Fishing Report : Apr 4 to 12 - 2010

This week has been fantastic for fishing.  With the warmer temperatures, bright skies and moderate wind the anglers are catching a lot of fish.  Most boats are averaging 15 fish with some boats landing more than 30 fish.  Over a dozen fish between 5 and 8 pounds have been landed.

Villa Maria Fishing Report : Apr 2 to 9 - 2010

Conditions were tougher this week. Both guides and anglers had to work hard to find the fish. Our group of 7 rods landed 28 fish, including 4 fish over 20 lbs. Given the low water conditions we are fishing almost exclusivley with fast sinking lines.

Kau Tapen Fishing Report : Apr 3 to 10 - 2010

A rise of water at the start of the week brought a fresh run of fish into the river and stirred up many of the pools. As the river dropped back down again we had to work hard to find the fish. However, the tail end of the season always holds the opportunity of a monster and this year was no different. Hakan, from Sweden, landed a beautiful 28 pound female, the largest fish of the season!
