Villa María Lodge – Week 6: Feb 6th to 13th, 2026

Week six at Villa María Lodge delivered one of those classic February mixes that only Patagonia can produce. Conditions changed constantly, demanding full attention from both anglers …

Villa María Lodge – Week 3: January 16th to 23rd, 2026

Week three at Villa María Lodge reminded us once again that Patagonia rarely delivers long stretches of stability. Intermittent rain and shifting winds defined much of the week, making it difficult to settle into that classic three- or four-day rhythm that often brings peak consistency on the Río Grande. Changing light, moving weather systems, and …

End of Season 2025 Report: Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego

As the 2025 season wraps on the Río Grande, we’re taking a moment to reflect on a year that tested us—and reminded us why this river remains one of the most compelling sea trout fisheries on earth.

Unusually low water shaped the entire season at both Kau Tapen and Villa María. With little rainfall and steady Patagonian winds, the river ran low and clear for most of the season. Conditions demanded a technical approach—long leaders, small flies, and pinpoint presentations. Fortunately, our guide teams rose to the challenge, delivering consistent action from January through April.

Villa María Lodge: End of Season Report 2025

As we close out the 2025 season at Villa María Lodge, it’s clear that this year was truly one for the books. The season played out differently than previous years, presenting its own set of challenges—and rewards.

The river steadily dropped week after week, and wind was ever-present—often intense—right up until the end of March. Despite these conditions, we enjoyed mild temperatures throughout the summer, making for an overall comfortable experience on the water.

We wrapped up Week 12 at Villa María Lodge, and there’s no denying that autumn is starting to make its presence felt on the river system.

The week began with cold water, ranging from 7 to 8.5 degrees Celsius, which slowed the fishing down considerably. As often happens with sudden drops in water temperature, the fish needed time to adapt before returning to their usual behavior. By the third day, one of Rio Grande’s famous winds picked up, reducing visibility to just 30 cm. However, this seemed to trigger the fish, and we saw some excellent fishing as a result.
